Our office partners with Dignity Health's Sequoia Diabetes Center and the Sequoia Quality Care Network to recommend preventative measures for patients with Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes:

Suggestions: 1) Wear socks with athletic shoes; 2) Never walk barefoot; 3) Protect your feet from hot and cold; 4) Wear shoes on the beach and hot ground; 5) Don't put your feet in hot water, use heating pads or electric blankets; 6) Put your feet up when sitting; 7) Don't cross your legs for long periods of time; 8) Move your feet up and down for 5 minutes, 2-3 times each day; 9) Don't smoke.

Perform A Daily Foot Check:  1) Look for red spots, cuts, swelling or blisters; 2) Check the bottom of your feet using a mirror or ask someone to help; 3) Wash your feet, then dry between your toes; 4) Keep your skin soft with lotion on the tops and bottoms of your feet, but NOT between the toes; 5) Trim your toenails cutting straight across and file the edges.

Doctor Care:  1) Contact your doctor if you find red spots, cuts, swelling, blisters or bruises; 2) Get a foot exam at least once a year; 3) Take off your shoes and socks at each doctor appointment; 4) Tell your doctor if you have ever had ulcers, amputations or foot deformities.
